At the crossroads where Henry Cow, Present, Zappa, Tipographica, Miriodor meet, that is where this band from Italy come from. A highly skilled group of musicians that are daring to take their compositional skills into the realms of the unnoticed and uncompromising world of musical art. Yet one has to fully digest the genius at work here, as Calomito take their idiom of chamber progressive music in and out of many different moods and modes. They have a nice blend of acoustic and electric instruments, they are typically dwelling in the more comprehensive world of RIO sounding music. Meaning, that they are challenging without being downright confusing, never simple, and never complex for the sake of complexity.
This cd is my first exposure to them, and my impressions are quite good of this little known band. Full of humorous moods, great playing, and fun arrangements. No doubt they should be on the lists of the more challenging and demanding alt-prog fans lists, can't wait to get hold of their back catalogue if this cd is any indication of their style.
